Bacon Burger Dog

Bacon Burger Dog

Two of my favorite BBQ appetizers are the MOINK Ball and the Fatty.  Aaron McCargo, Jr of Food Network’s “Big Daddy’s House” has sort of combined both ideas into a tasty “hot dog” treat.  Aaron’s talks about cooking these in the oven, but here at The BBQ Grail we are going to encourage you to grill or better yet, smoke yours.

Aaron’s video is sponsored by Wright Brand Bacon and they’ve sent me five coupons for free Wright Brand Bacon.  If you’d like a chance for a coupon, leave a comment on this post.  On July 1st I’ll draw five winners and notify you through email.

If you’d like a copy of the recipe emailed to you just ask in the comment section.

Thanks for playing along.

Bacon Burger-Style Hot Dog: Recipe serves 4
      Ingredients

      1 pound ground beef
      1 teaspoon kosher salt
      1 tablespoon cracked black pepper
      2 tablespoons Worchestershire sauce
      6 strips uncooked smoked bacon
      1/4 cup jalapeño peppers, chopped
      1 cup shredded Colby cheese
      4 hot dog buns
      8 strips uncooked smoked bacon

      Oven Preparation Instructions:

      Preparation Time: 20 minutes

      Cook Time: 25-30 minutes

      Preheat oven to 400°.
While oven is preheating, in a medium size bowl mix ground beef, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce; set aside.
Cook 10 strips of smoked bacon according to package directions. Allow to cool slightly, then coursely chop.
In another medium bowl, gently toss the cooked bacon pieces with jalapeños and cheese; set aside.
Divide burger meat into quarters and roll each quarter between two pieces of plastic wrap to a 6-inch by 4-inch square.
Place 1/4 of the cooked bacon, jalapeño and cheese filling down the middle of each square. Roll and seal meat into hot dog shape.
Wrap each burger dog with two strips of uncooked smoked bacon from end to end, securing with a toothpick.
Place burger dogs in an oven-safe baking dish or skillet and cook in oven for 25 – 30 minutes, or until desired crispness is achieved.
Remove burger dogs from oven, take out toothpicks, place burger dogs on hot dog buns and enjoy!

      Grilling Preparation Instructions

      Preparation Time: 20 minutes

      Cook Time: 15-20 minutes

While grill is preheating, prepare steps 1 through 6 as directed above.
Place burger dogs on medium-hot grill and cook approximately 15-20 minutes with lid closed, turning every 2-3 minutes or until cooked.
Remove burger dogs from grill, place on hot dog buns and enjoy!

MOINK Fingers! Great idea! These look really good. I’m thinking about Italian or breakfast sausage too for the ground meat.

If everything was wrapped in bacon and cooked in a smoker there would be no wars.

  • Brilliant, more bacon per square inch of burger….

  • Dan

    MMMMMM…Bacon!!!

  • Meatball

    You had me at bacon.

  • I still cant believe that is guy is on food network and SIDE is not! lol

  • Shouldn’t this be called the MOINK Burger Dog?

    What’s an oven?

  • Mmm… bacon. Send me a coupon and I promise I will wrap the bacon around something and cook it on the smoker. Better yet, I’ll even let you pick what I should cook with it. MOINK is easy, bacon explosions a little more difficult, ABTs and not-ABTs are a piece of cake. How about some bacon-wrapped scallops? C’mon Larry, part with a coupon… ;)
