Bon Appetit Magazine does it again.

I subscribe to several “cooking” magazines and in my opinion the best is Bon Appetit.  It’s always contains great recipes and “how to” features.  And without a doubt my favorite issue is the annual July BBQ Issue.  My copy arrived just the other day and it didn’t disappoint.  From the picture of the honey and ginger glazed baby back ribs to the story on th 10 Best New BBQ Restaurants it was packed with great bbq information.

Bon Appetit is one of the few media outlets that actually appears to know the difference between grilling and smoking.  And there isn’t a single boiled rib recipe in the entire issue.

The 15th Annual BBQ Issue includes a “Globe-Trotter’s Guide to BBQ” from Steve Raichlen and a great article on Korean BBQ from Jaime Purviance.  Not only does the issue have what looks like some great recipes, there’s an article on “Around The World in 80 Dogs”…hot dogs that is.

I rarely come across a traditional media outlet that knows bbq.  Bon Appetit’s annual BBQ issue in one of the few.  Check it out…

  • I don’t know about you, but those “baby back ribs” look a lot like “spare ribs” to me. That’s a bit of an embarrassment for the mag.

  • Like you I subscribe to several magazines and buy others off the rack that appeal to me. When I read this blog I had to run out and get the issue, I wasn’t disappointed in the content of the read. I do agree with Pit Master it’s a huge oversight with the picture on the cover, those aren’t back ribs. One of my favorite magazines I subscribe to is Cooks Illustrated, it’s a great magazine for both beginners and experienced alike. SM

  • I was very disappointed in this issue. It had nothing to do with BBQ as defined in traditional Southern United States. I didn’t see a single BBQ recipe.

This should have been called the grilling issue!
