…I was asked by a group of very accomplished pappered chefs to teach them how to BBQ ribs properly.
…I cooked for a small gathering of family members, some of them from out of town. Afterwards, my oldest sister, who was next in line for hosting our bi-annual family reunions, begged me to cook all of the meat for that event. (I did, it was last weekend, and I served pulled pork, baby back ribs, grilled chicken, and smoked brisket to forty hungry and appreciative family members!)
…my dad and step-mom would not let anyone touch the bbq grill but me.
… people actually wanted to pay us to BBQ for them. We started out giving extra BBQ meats to the neighbors and got rave reviews, then we ended up catering some of their family events like christenings, graduation parties, birthday parties, etc. It all kind of grew from there.
…I did a couple catering gigs and at each one it got real quiet while everyone ate, followed by people asking what restaurant I owned because they had to get some more.
…everyone I know who has a BBQ question calls me or asks me to come sit with them while they are smoking something.
…I took several smoked chickens to a friends party – along with several other fellas – and saw that everyone ate mine first.
… when all my friends ask me to come to their house and cook their BBQ for them.
…I did all the cooking for my in-laws last July 4th – my FIL said “you can do ribs for me anytime” and my BIL asked later where we got all the BBQ from because he really liked it.
…I was asked to cook Pulled Pork for the Executive Chef at the Bakery I work for.
…my friends, family, wifes work friends, my kids school, ect started asking me to cook for them. Made me feel that I was on to something good. We all have heard that our BBQ is the best. Mine might not be the best, but I try everytime to make it that way.
Maybe I am a just doofus who cant say no.
…my Friend’s Wives Asked If I Would Teach Their Husbands How To Cook Ribs Like Mine
…I lived in flint michigan, not in the best of neighborhoods and this old old gentleman said..
“You cook pretty good BBQ for a white boy, when are you cooking next??..”..one of my best compliments ever
…my step-dad (who did not give compliments freely) said, “That’s the best darn smoked turkey I ever ate.”
I became the default grill person in the family, food would be handed to me and I would be told to cook it.
…our family and relatives wants BBQ they always ask me to cook it.
When my then 9 year old (Wyatt) started to ask to BBQ almost every weekend. He easily picked it up after that.
I cooked the ribs for a Labor Day bash and was told by an employee of a local smokehouse restaurant that mine were better.
When the (grown) kids and their friends come out of the woodwork with hungry eyes because “Dad’s doing his thing” again.
I love the feeling when the FIL ask me to do some ribs for him. He says they are better than ANY he’s had at rib joints.
Its now set in stone that all family cookouts are required to be at my house.
When I realized I’ve never boiled ribs
When a guy asked to by a whole brisket to take home.
I get asked what local bbq joint i work in… I work in a Jail
When the pulled pork, ABT’s, fatties and ribs disappeared at the last family get-together. Plus during the last smoke, I realized I wasn’t checking the temps every 5 mins, it felt like I was in total control, like I knew what the meat was doing…
…when somebody walked up to me and said, “You’re Bigmista! I learned how to trim a brisket from one of your videos!
…my wife bought me a smoker for Christmas and mase me open it the night before so I could smoke the turkey for dinner. my daughters ask me how to cook Q
when my 14yr old son wouldn’t eat any bbq in Texas cause i wasn’ t the one who made. told his aunt “i only eat my dads bbq”. when i got there they had me cook for everyone, and now i have to haul my smoker home when i go visit, cause they don’t want to eat anyone elses bbq.
…the first time I got a call to the stage at a contest, it was just for third in ribs but I’ll never forget it!
